The type of file also affects how much information is saved and how the picture looks.
The file types .bmp, .png, and .tif all store every single pixel without any changes.
The file type .gif reduces the number of colors to 256, which can cause problems rendering an image with a lot of colors.
The file type .jpg "adjusts" some of the pixels in an attempt to reduce the overall file size.
While the adjustments are often difficult to detect, they are sometimes quite obvious.
